Duca and Cosma at the HESC

Celebrate World Wildlife Day with Duca del Cosma! The limited addition black leather King Cheetah Golf Shoethe King Cheetah Lente (named after Lente Roode) and the King Cheetah White awarded a bronze medal in the Global Footwear Awards Golf Category, will make a comeback in the 2023 Spring Summer Golf Shoe Collection, due to its success in 2022. Keep your eyes out on the SS23 launch, as we might launch another King Cheetah Golf Shoe as well as more King Cheetah Golf Accessories.

All three Duca del Cosma King Cheetah design golf shoes find inspiration from this rare cat, to create awareness for this rare breed and to support the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre (HESC), in South Africa. The King Cheetah design is chic and sporty, thanks to the unique animal prints crafted of flexible neoprene and beautifully juxtaposed on each side. The bootie system is waterproof, the leather-topped memory foam insole provides comfort, while Duca's Airplay VII outsole gives you the stability (& looks like the paw of the King Cheetah!).

KING CHEETAH x DUCA DEL COSMA

With a population in the wild only just reaching double figures and around 50 living in a protected environment, the King Cheetah is the rarest cat on the African continent. With its special colours and markings, it was once thought to be a separate species. However, the King Cheetah is now recognised as the same animal as the more common cheetah – the fastest animal on the planet capable of speeds up to 120 kph/70 mph – but with a pronounced fur pattern mutation in its thicker coat.

In supporting this rare beauty of nature, Duca del Cosma has teamed up with the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre (HESC) and designed a limited edition range of both golf and lifestyle footwear for women, combining the beauty of nature with an elegant fashion design.

Joint owner of Duca del Cosma, Caroline van Wezel, has adopted two cubs named Duca and Cosma, who hopefully will play a significant part in preserving the wonderful species themselves. Duca, the first adopted Cheetah who at birth seemed to be a girl, appeared not to be a young beautiful young lady King Cheetah but a handsome boy. Luckily, the second adopted cub, is a lady Cosma. This January in 2022, Caroline van Wezel finally had the opportunity to visit the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre (HESC) and in particular the adopted King Cheetahs ‘Duca’ and ‘Cosma’.

“It was such a special moment for me to finally look the grown up King Cheetah’s in their eyes”.

KING CHEETAH LENTE - a tribute to Lente Roode

Founded by the South African Lente Roode, who grew up with orphan cheetahs from the age of six, the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre (HESC) is a uniquely South African wildlife facility focusing on conservation and the sustainability of rare, vulnerable and threatened species. The centre has adopted a holistic approach to its conservation activities, such as the education of surrounding communities, tourism, breeding, rehabilitation and anti-poaching. Cheetah Conservation is one of its core disciplines, as there estimated to be less than 7,000 cheetahs remaining in Africa and less than 50 remaining King Cheetah’s. The centre has an active programme for the release and establishment of captive-bred cheetahs in the wild.
